Adventures in Albany

Eddie and I spent some time with my Walkowicz side in Albany NY. We stayed with my grandparents and G'ma couldn't have been happier. You would think that you don't do a lot with older folks, but this year was activity mania.

G'ma had an Albany Aqua Duck tour planned for us. What is that you say? Well it looks like a big boat on wheels. First it is a tour through the streets of Albany (crazy OLD town, we're talking like the pilgrims old) then you get to "sail" on the Hudson River. It was a blast and we learned a ton. Although it was sticky hot we still really enjoyed learning all our fun facts (Eddie and I are nerds, we know). Plus I adore ducks and you got a duck whistle when you first got on. Glorious!!

We also had a chance to visit my Aunt Kathy and Uncle Chuck's Deli in Downtown Albany. INSANELY good food! We had the roast beef special and I tell ya, I still wake up each morning wishing that I could have another one. Too cool to see Aunt Kathy in action.

One morning we decided to have a church tour. We stopped at the newly renovated cathedral (2nd oldest Cathedral in NY, St. Patrick's in the city is #1), then to St. Mary's (2nd oldest Catholic Church in NY, 2nd to St. Peter's in the city), and finally to the church where Aunt Kathy got married, St. Johns. All were fantastic and it was so neat to see all the different architecture and which saints each church chose to use.

We had a fantastic brunch prepared by G'ma including all the Polish favorites pierogis, kielbasa, and that cabbage thingy that I have no idea how to spell, g-something. We were in heaven while polkas played in the background.

We also had a chance to visit different houses, g'parents old house and the very first address I learned in Kindergarten, 111 Washington Rd. Scotia, NY 12303. It was a blast from the past.

It was a wonderful trip and we can't wait to go back!

  1. Were you referring to "golumpkis?" Awesome! And I'm guessing that is the first house you lived in... beautiful home!
