Michigan and Texas Differences

So our time in Michigan has come to an end. We were sad to leave but ready for the next adventure. Pittsburgh here we come. Before we end our blogging sessions about Michigan I wanted to share some things that are different between our states...

Due to the drought in TX we have forgotten all about the horrifying little bug called the mosquito. I have been eaten alive with a bite count around 76 last time I checked.

We don't have fireflies in TX. I felt like a kid again.

They have what is called the Michigan left. Instead of taking a left through an intersection you take a right, then a left, then a left to by-pass the intersection. Weird.

Due to Texas' large Hispanic population it was unusual for me to see Caucasians as yard guys, bus boys and construction workers.

They have very bumpy roads.

Insane amount of Catholic churches. Insane amount.

Because I wasn't threatened with the thought of being attacked by fire ants I was able to stand in the grass barefoot. Woohoo!

Most houses in MI have no fences in their backyards.

Not quite sure what's up with all the blinking stop lights but it freaked me out.

They are big fans of roundabouts (you know, those circles you drive around on the road and all the streets stem off of the circle?). I am not.

They have all fresh water – no man made lakes like in Tejas.

No in ground pools.

Lots of tire pieces on the road.

Very difficult to find Dr. Pepper. Boo.

People drive with their windows down. Crazy.

Here are a few pictures of our time in Michigan. Enjoy!

  1. So glad you two are having an awesome trip! (yes, I realize I'm reading this as you are nearing the end of your travels, but so happy to hear it's been filled with much joy, good food, and great company!)
